Fort Stanwix: A Tiny Site with a Huge History

Join us for the first of eight speakers in our monthly series for the new season, which runs September through May. Each speaker will focus on a different aspect of our local and regional history, with special attention paid to the 250th anniversaries of U.S. Independence in 2026 and the Battle of Oriskany in 2027.
NPS Ranger Valerie Morgan from Fort Stanwix National Monument will present, “Fort Stanwix: A Tiny Site with a Huge History.” Drawing on her experience at the park since 1993, Ranger Val will guide attendees on a journey through the geography, commerce, and military history, as well as two of the most influential treaty negotiations held at the site. In addition, she will cover how the site evolved from local memory to national monument in honor of the country’s 250th birthday and the park’s 50th anniversary of being open to the public.
